A Letter to My Younger Self

JOURNEY OF MY LIFE

What advice would I give? What warnings, insights, or words of encouragement would I offer?

Photo by Scott Graham on Unsplash

This story is inspired by Lamberton Conservatory/Jessie’s article “Love Letter from My Younger Self.”

I’ve often wondered what I would say if I could write a letter to my younger self. What advice would I give? What warnings, insights, or words of encouragement would I offer?

As I sit down to pen this “love letter,” I imagine a dialogue between the person I am today—Dr. Mazlan Abbas, with years of experience in IoT and telecommunications—and the young man I once was, full of dreams and uncertainties.

Dear Young Mazlan,

As I sit down to write this letter, memories of our younger days flood back with affectionate clarity. It’s a peculiar feeling — writing to oneself across the expanse of years. Each word I pen is infused with the wisdom of experiences you have yet to encounter, and each pause is filled with the echo of lessons learned.

Follow Your Curiosity

You have always been driven by a deep-seated curiosity about the world, how it works, and how you can contribute to its mechanics. Never lose that. Let your curiosity be the compass that guides you through the complexities of life and career. Each interest and question you pursue will open new doors—some will lead to dead ends, but others will open up vast realms of opportunity and knowledge. Our path into the world of technology and innovation was paved by this very curiosity.

Embrace Change and Challenges

I know you worry about failure, about paths not taken or dreams not realized. Let me ease your mind: you will fail, more than once. But with each failure, you will learn and grow. These are not endpoints but part of a larger journey. Each setback and each challenge is an opportunity to learn and to recalibrate. Embrace them. They are invaluable teachers.

Value Your Relationships

In the pursuit of your dreams, do not overlook the people who walk beside you. The support of family, the camaraderie of friends, and the alliances with colleagues will be your greatest treasures. Make time for them. When shared, the successes will feel sweeter, and the failures less bitter. Remember, no achievement is worth the neglect of those you love.

Stay Humble and Keep Learning

The world of technology and telecommunications, the arenas of your professional battles, evolve rapidly. To stay relevant, you must remain a perpetual student. Attend seminars, engage with your peers, read voraciously, and always be prepared to admit that there is more to learn. Complacency is the enemy of innovation. Keep your mind open and your knowledge base ever-expanding.

Give Back to the Community

You often wonder about the mark you’ll leave on the world. Remember that every small contribution counts. Whether mentoring young professionals, speaking at industry conferences, or contributing to technological innovations, each effort contributes to a larger good. Our work is not just about personal success but about improving lives and empowering communities.

Enjoy the Journey

Lastly, I want you to savor each moment of this journey. The late nights, the breakthroughs, even the uncertainties — they are all the jigsaw puzzles that you need to solve. Do not be so focused on the destination that you forget to enjoy the path you are traveling.

Young Mazlan, as you stand on the edge of many adventures and achievements, know that the journey is worth every challenge. Love each part of it, even the struggles, for they will shape you into the person you are destined to become.

With all the love and wisdom I can offer,

Dr. Mazlan Abbas

Aligning with Your Dreams: The Journey to Becoming Who You’re Meant to Be

Inspiring Quotes

How This Quote Transform Me

Your Dreams Are Waiting for You to Align with Them

I often reflect on the early days of my journey, back when I was just a curious boy fascinated by science fiction, cartoons like The Jetsons, and stacks of DC comics.

Those stories of futuristic worlds, innovative gadgets, and unthinkable possibilities weren’t just entertainment — they planted wonder in my mind.

I dreamt of creating something that could change the world.

But dreams, as I’ve learned, don’t come to life alone. They wait for us to align with them and rise to their call.

The quote, “Your dreams are not far; they are waiting for you to align with them,” resonates deeply with me. It’s not about chasing dreams; it’s about becoming capable of realising them.

In my career, I’ve navigated vastly different environments — a university, a government agency, a corporate world, and a startup. Each phase felt like stepping into a new dimension of time and challenges. Yet, those experiences were essential.

They moulded my perspective, sharpened my skills, and tested my patience. I had to learn to adapt, to fail, and most importantly, to persevere.

When we founded FAVORIOT, it wasn’t just another tech company for me. It embodied a vision — an IoT platform that could simplify complex solutions and improve lives.

But the path wasn’t as smooth as I had envisioned. The hurdles were plenty: convincing stakeholders, educating a market that wasn’t ready, and navigating financial constraints.

There were days when the vision felt like a distant star, almost unreachable.

But here’s the truth: dreams don’t drift away; we do. And to bring them closer, I had to realign my mindset and actions.

It meant going back to the drawing board, simplifying our goals, and surrounding myself with a team that believed in the vision as much as I did.

It wasn’t just about building a company; it was about building resilience, trust, and a relentless spirit.

I also realised the power of small steps.

Often, we think of dreams as giant leaps, but they are built on the foundation of consistent effort.

Writing one article at a time, connecting with one potential client, and sharing one innovative idea — each moment contributed to making FAVORIOT what it is today.

To anyone reading this, I want you to know that your dreams are closer than you think. They are patiently waiting for you to take that first step, embrace the discomfort of growth, and push through moments of doubt.

Looking back, I see that everything I’ve achieved wasn’t because I chased my dreams. It was because I became aligned with them. I became the scientist, the innovator, and the entrepreneur I always envisioned.

So, take a moment today to ask yourself: Are you aligned with your dreams?

Because they are waiting — not far away, not out of reach, but within you, waiting for you to rise to the occasion.

A Letter to My Future Self

ABOUT ME SERIES

Reflecting on a Journey of Innovation and Inspiration

Photo by jules a. on Unsplash

My article “A Letter to My Younger Self” inspired this story.

I’ve often wondered what I would say if I could write a letter to my future self.

What advice would I give? What warnings, insights, or words of encouragement would I offer?

Dear Future Mazlan,

I contemplate our journey as I begin composing this letter. I trust that this letter will prompt recollections of our ambitions, hopes, and the wisdom we’ve gained.

It’s a warm day in July 2024, and the buzzing energy of FAVORIOT surrounds me. The office is alive with the sound of collaboration and innovation.

Our team is working tirelessly to bring the next big idea to life. I hope you’re reading this with a sense of pride, knowing that we’ve stayed true to our vision and continued to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of IoT.

As you read this, I hope you remember the early days when we first dreamed of creating a company that would be a leader in technology and a beacon of inspiration for future generations.

FAVORIOT was born out of a desire to make a difference, transform the way we interact with technology, and build smarter, more connected cities. Wherever you are now, that vision has been realized in ways we could only have imagined.

Remember the countless hours spent brainstorming and strategizing, the late nights and early mornings, and the unwavering belief that we were on the right path.

A deep sense of purpose always counterbalanced those moments of doubt and uncertainty. We knew that our work mattered and that it had the potential to change lives. And it did.

The stories of how our solutions have improved the quality of life for so many people are the true measure of our success.

I hope you’ve continued to share your knowledge and experiences with others. Writing has always been our passion, and through platforms like Medium and our blog, we’ve reached and inspired countless readers.

I hope you’ve kept up with that, using your voice to educate and motivate. Your words have power; they’ve helped many see the potential within themselves and the world around them.

Do you remember the thrill of speaking at conferences, the excitement of standing in front of an audience and sharing our vision? Those moments were exhilarating, not just because of the applause or recognition but because of our connections and impact on others.

I hope you’ve continued to embrace those opportunities, stand on those stages, and inspire others with your journey.

Our family has always been our anchor, grounding us through the highs and lows. The support and love from our wife and children have been unwavering.

I hope you’ve continued to cherish those relationships to make time for them amidst the chaos of work. They are, after all, our most outstanding achievement.

Looking back, it’s clear that the road wasn’t always easy. Some challenges tested our resolve, and there were moments when giving up seemed like an option. But we persevered, driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence and a belief in our mission.

I hope that in the years that have passed, you’ve found new ways to innovate, to stay ahead of the curve, and to keep that fire burning.

I trust that you have maintained a mindset of curiosity and open-mindedness as we anticipate the future. The technology landscape is constantly advancing, presenting us with continuous opportunities for learning and overcoming new challenges. Maintain a strong thirst for knowledge, continue to explore, and persist in dreaming without limits.

I wonder what new horizons you’ve explored.

Have you ventured into new areas of technology, perhaps even beyond IoT? Have you taken on new roles, maybe as a mentor or advisor, helping the next generation of innovators find their path? Whatever it is, I hope you’ve found fulfillment and joy in your endeavors.

Lastly, remember to take a moment to breathe and appreciate the journey and progress made. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of daily life, but it’s essential to pause and reflect on how far we’ve come.

Celebrate the victories, big and small, and learn from the setbacks.

As I write this, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for our experiences, the people we’ve met, and the impact we’ve made. I hope you carry that gratitude with you always.

It’s been an incredible journey, with so much more to come.

So, here’s to the future, new adventures, and the enduring spirit of innovation that drives us. Keep pushing boundaries, keep inspiring, and keep making a difference.

With warm regards and unwavering belief in our shared future,

Mazlan Abbas

From Zero to One Engagement on Medium

WRITER’S JOURNEY

Using these three (3) essential steps

Photo by Scott Rodgerson on Unsplash

When I started writing on Medium, I was eager to share my insights on IoT, smart cities, and entrepreneurship. However, like many new writers, I struggled to gain traction.

It was frustrating to see my articles receive little to no engagement despite the effort I put into them.

Over time, I realized that successful Medium writers often adopt specific strategies that set them apart. Drawing from my personal experiences, I’ll share three essential tips that helped transform my writing journey.

1 — Consistency is Key

Photo by Maria Ziegler on Unsplash

When I began, I wrote sporadically, sometimes posting two articles in a week and then disappearing for a month.

This inconsistency was one of the main reasons my audience didn’t grow as I had hoped.

Successful Medium writers, I discovered, are remarkably consistent.

They show up regularly, daily, weekly, or bi-weekly.

Building a Routine

Okay, Mazlan, you need a writing schedule,” I told myself one evening after noticing a particularly inactive month on my blog.

I decided to treat writing like any other important task in my life – something that required discipline and commitment.

I set a goal to write at least three articles a week.

Initially, it was challenging.

There were days when inspiration was elusive, and the words wouldn’t flow.

But I pushed through, reminding myself of the importance of consistency. Over time, writing became a habit, almost second nature.

Embracing the Grind

Sometimes, I felt like giving up, questioning if my efforts were worth it. “Is anyone even reading this?” I’d wonder aloud.

But then I remembered the advice of successful writers: consistency pays off. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

Slowly but surely, my audience began to grow.

People started to recognize my name, and my articles received more engagement.

2 — Write for Your Audience, Not for Yourself

Photo by Melanie Deziel on Unsplash

One of the biggest mistakes I made initially was writing articles that I found interesting without considering what my audience wanted.

Successful Medium writers understand their readers deeply and create content tailored to their interests and needs.

Understanding My Audience

To better understand my audience, I started paying close attention to the comments on my articles, the questions people asked, and the topics that resonated most with my readers.

I realized that while I loved diving deep into the technical aspects of IoT, my readers were more interested in practical applications and real-world case studies.

Why don’t you write more about how IoT can solve everyday problems?” a reader once commented.

It was a lightbulb moment for me.

Adapting My Content

With this new understanding, I shifted my focus.

Instead of writing purely technical articles, I started sharing stories of how IoT technology was being used innovatively to improve lives.

I wrote about smart cities implementing IoT solutions to reduce traffic congestion or farmers using IoT devices to optimize crop yields.

This shift made a significant difference.

My articles started to resonate more with my audience.

They found value in my content because it addressed their interests and provided practical insights they could relate to.

3 — Engage with the Community

Photo by Leighann Blackwood on Unsplash

Writing on Medium isn’t just about posting articles and hoping for the best. It’s about being part of a community.

Successful Medium writers actively engage with other writers and readers.

They comment on others’ posts, respond to comments on their articles, and participate in discussions.

Building Relationships

I realized that I needed to be more active in the Medium community to grow as a writer.

I started reading more articles from other writers, leaving thoughtful comments, and engaging in conversations.

This helped me learn from others and increased my visibility on the platform.

One day, I left a comment on an article about the future of smart cities.

The author responded, and we ended up having a lengthy discussion about the potential of IoT in urban planning.

This interaction led to a collaboration on a co-authored article, bringing new readers to our profiles.

Responding to Feedback

Engaging with my readers also meant responding to their comments and feedback.

Initially, I would just hit the “like” button on comments, but I soon realized that taking the time to respond thoughtfully made a big difference.

It showed my readers that I valued their input and appreciated their engagement.

Thank you for this insight! Have you considered writing about IoT in healthcare?” a reader once asked.

This led to an entire series of articles exploring the use of IoT in different sectors, which became some of my most popular posts.

Reflections and Growth

Looking back, these three tips – consistency, writing for my audience, and engaging with the community – have been crucial in my growth as a writer on Medium.

They transformed my approach and helped me connect with readers more deeply.

The Road Ahead

As I continue my writing journey, I remain committed to these principles.

There’s always room for improvement, and I constantly seek ways to refine my craft.

Writing is a continuous learning process; each article is an opportunity to grow and connect with my audience.

Photo by Mahdi Dastmard on Unsplash

If you’re a new writer on Medium, remember that success doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes time, effort, and a willingness to adapt and learn.

Be consistent, understand your audience, and engage with the community.

These strategies won’t just help you grow as a writer – they’ll help you build meaningful connections and create content that resonates.

As I write my next article, I remind myself of my journey.

The struggles, the small victories, and the lessons learned along the way.

And with each keystroke, I’m one step closer to becoming the writer I aspire to be.

Writing on Medium has been a rewarding experience filled with challenges and growth.

By adopting the strategies of successful writers, I’ve learned to navigate this journey with a clearer sense of direction and purpose.

Why Persistence in Writing Matters, Even Without Readers

WRITING STORIES

Why You Should Not Give Up Writing When No One is Reading Your Articles

Photo by Myriam Jessier on Unsplash

There I was, staring at my blog’s analytics, disheartened by the lack of traffic. The numbers were abysmally low, almost non-existent.

Why am I even doing this?” I thought, frustration bubbling up inside me.

This wasn’t the first time I had felt this way. But then, I remembered a conversation I had with myself years ago when I first embarked on this writing journey.

The Beginning

Do you remember why you started this, Mazlan?” I asked myself, my younger self nodding in response.

It wasn’t about the numbers or the recognition. It was about sharing your knowledge, insights, and passion for IoT and technology.

Yeah, but what’s the point if no one is reading?” my younger self retorted, a hint of desperation in his voice.

The point is that every piece you write is a step forward,” I replied, my voice firm but encouraging.

Every article helps you refine your thoughts, improve your skills, and build your body of work. Even if no one reads it now, that doesn’t mean they won’t in the future.

Finding the Purpose in Writing

Photo by Anete Lūsiņa on Unsplash

Writing has always been a deeply personal endeavor for me.

It’s a way to document my journey, express my thoughts and ideas, and connect with like-minded individuals.

But not every piece will be an instant hit.

Sometimes, it feels like shouting into the void.

But then, I remind myself of a lesson I learned early on.

Mazlan, writing is a marathon, not a sprint,” I often tell myself.

It’s about persistence, about showing up even when no one is listening.

Every article, every post, every word written is a brick laid on the path towards becoming a better writer and thinker.

Overcoming Self-Doubt

But what if I’m not good enough?” my self-doubt whispered, a familiar yet unwelcome voice.

Everyone starts somewhere,” I countered, remembering the countless drafts and revisions that shaped my early articles.

The only way to improve is to keep writing. Every writer faces rejection and criticism, but those who persist ultimately succeed.

The Journey

Photo by Mantas Hesthaven on Unsplash

There were times when I felt like giving up.

I remember one particularly rough patch when my articles seemed to need to be noticed.

It was during this time that I had another pivotal conversation with myself.

The Turning Point

Maybe it’s time to quit,” my frustrated self said, slumping in defeat.

Or maybe it’s time to change your perspective,” I responded, a spark of determination igniting.

Focus on the joy of writing, the process of learning, and the satisfaction of creating something from nothing. The recognition will come, but only if you keep going.

It was a turning point for me.

I started to enjoy the process more, to find joy in the act of writing itself rather than the external validation.

And slowly, things began to change.

My articles started to gain traction, and I received feedback from readers who found value in my words.

Celebrating Small Wins

Photo by Vitolda Klein on Unsplash

Hey, look at this comment!” my excited self exclaimed one day, pointing at a heartfelt message from a reader.

See? Your words are making an impact,” I said, a smile spreading across my face.

Celebrate these small wins, and let them fuel your passion to keep writing.

The Importance of Consistency

Consistency has been critical in my writing journey.

I’ve learned that writing regularly is crucial even when it feels like no one is reading.

It builds discipline and hone your craft.

I remember when I committed to writing several articles per month, regardless of the readership.

The Power of Consistency

Photo by Mohamed Nohassi on Unsplash

Do you think this will pay off?” my skeptical self asked, eyeing the blank page in front of us.

It’s not about immediate rewards,” I replied, my voice steady with conviction.

It’s about laying the groundwork for long-term success. Consistency breeds improvement, and improvement attracts readers.

Connecting with the Right Audience

Over time, I realized that finding the right audience is as essential as writing the content.

I started sharing my articles on different platforms, engaging with communities interested in IoT and technology, and participating in discussions.

This helped me connect with readers who genuinely appreciated my work.

Expanding Reach

Photo by Marc-Olivier Jodoin on Unsplash

Maybe you should try sharing your articles in new places,” my strategic self suggested.

Good idea,” I nodded. “Let’s explore forums, social media groups, and other platforms where our target audience hangs out. It’s about meeting readers where they are.

Learning from Feedback

Feedback, both positive and negative, has been invaluable. It has helped me grow as a writer and better understand my audience.

I remember receiving constructive criticism on one of my early articles, which initially stung but ultimately made me a better writer.

Embracing Criticism

Photo by Grant Ritchie on Unsplash

Ouch, that was harsh,” my hurt self winced, reading the critique.

Take it as a lesson,” I advised, my voice gentle but firm. “Every piece of feedback is an opportunity to learn and improve. Embrace it, and use it to grow.

Finding Your Voice

One of the most significant milestones in my writing journey was finding my unique voice.

It took time and experimentation, but eventually, I discovered a style that resonated with my readers.

Writing in the first person and using self-dialogues has been a game-changer, making my articles more relatable and engaging.

Discovering My Voice

Photo by Annie Spratt on Unsplash

I feel like I’m finally finding my groove,” my excited self said, a new confidence in his voice.

That’s because you’re being true to yourself,” I replied, a sense of pride welling up. “Keep writing from the heart, and your audience will find you.

The Joy of Writing

Ultimately, writing has brought me immense joy and fulfillment.

It has allowed me to express myself, share my knowledge, and connect with people worldwide.

Even during the tough times, I’ve always found solace in writing.

Rediscovering Joy

Why do we keep doing this?” my weary self asked during a particularly challenging period.

Because it’s what we love,” I answered, a smile spreading across my face. “Writing is a part of who we are. It’s our way of making a difference, one word at a time.”

Never Give Up

So, to anyone who feels like giving up on writing because no one is reading, remember this: Your words matter, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. Keep writing, keep learning, and keep pushing forward. The journey may be arduous, but the rewards are worth it.

Final Encouragement

Do you think we’ll ever reach a wide audience?” my hopeful self asked.

I believe we will,” I said confidently. “But even if we don’t, the journey itself is worth every word written. Never give up because your voice deserves to be heard.

Writing is a journey of persistence, passion, and continuous growth.

It’s about staying true to yourself and finding joy in the process.

So, keep writing; one day, your audience will find you.

The Thought of Giving Up as an Entrepreneur

A poem

Photo by Gift Habeshaw on Unsplash

In the quiet dawn, dreams softly arise,

Underneath the veil of the morning skies.

Whispers of hope in the early light,

An entrepreneur’s journey, through day and night.

Challenges loom like shadows on the ground,

Yet in every heart, courage can be found.

Dreams may falter, and paths may bend,

But the spirit of resolve will never end.

Through sleepless nights and tireless days,

We forge ahead in countless ways.

Failures teach us, refine our art,

Building resilience, strengthening our heart.

Each setback a lesson, each hurdle a test,

Fuel for the fire that burns in our chest.

When doubt creeps in and spirits sag,

Remember, every summit started as a crag.

Innovation is born from a restless mind,

In the face of adversity, solutions we find.

With every “no” and every door closed,

New opportunities are always exposed.

The weight of the world may press us down,

But we wear determination like a crown.

In the forge of trials, our resolve is tempered,

Our vision clearer, our mission remembered.

For every storm that darkens the sky,

A rainbow awaits when the clouds pass by.

Persistence is the key, patience the lock,

Together, they open the doors we knock.

The road is long, the journey steep,

But in our hearts, our dreams we keep.

Success is not a distant star,

But the courage to keep going, no matter how far.

So when the night is dark and hope seems small,

Stand tall and firm, give it your all.

For in the depths of struggle, greatness grows,

And the seed of success in perseverance sows.

Keep climbing, keep striving, through joy and tears,

Overcoming doubts, conquering fears.

The path of the entrepreneur is never straight,

But every twist and turn shapes our fate.

With every step, no matter how slight,

We inch closer to our guiding light.

So let the challenges come, let the doubts appear,

For we are entrepreneurs, and we persevere.

Finding Supporters in Public Speaking

THOUGHT LEADER’S ASPIRATION

From rejection to resonance.

As a keynote speaker, it’s important to realize that not everyone will resonate with your message, simply because it’s you.

However, there are always those who will be inspired by you, precisely because it’s you.

A common mistake is expecting everyone to applaud your ideas.

You can’t control others’ reactions or perceptions.

Instead, focus on what you can control.

Believe in the power of your message.

Speak with authenticity and passion.

Consistently hone your craft.

Your true audience and supporters will find you.

And you’ll connect with them in meaningful ways.

As you stand on stage, remember that your purpose is to share your unique perspective.

Embrace the differences in your audience; they bring richness to your experience.

Stay true to your values and vision.

Your words have the power to ignite change, inspire action, and create a ripple effect.

Be patient and persistent; success doesn’t come overnight.

Celebrate the small victories and learn from the challenges.

Build relationships and network with those who uplift and motivate you.

Stay committed to growth, both personally and professionally.

Your journey as a keynote speaker is not just about reaching everyone, but about deeply connecting with those who are ready to hear your message.

Keep moving forward with confidence and courage, and watch how your influence grows and inspires others.

How about you?

As a Writer — How Will Others Find Our Voice in the Crowdest Room

WRITER’S JOURNEY

You don’t need to be the loudest in the room, just the one who touches the heart.

Photo by Alena Jarrett on Unsplash

Every creator seeks that golden moment of viral success, but for most of us, the reality is a relentless hustle — a constant battle to distinguish ourselves amid the digital noise.

In the first week of May, a subtle shift began to unfold. My articles started to gain traction, a sign that I was finally breaking through the formidable barrier of obscurity. It wasn’t dramatic, yet it was significant enough to fuel my confidence.

Is this it? Am I finally getting somewhere?” I pondered, my heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and skepticism.

Photo by Manki Kim on Unsplash

The internet is a crowded marketplace, filled with voices clamoring to be heard. When I first began, my words seemed to dissolve into the abyss of content that fills the web.

It was disheartening.

My writing journey was driven by a desire to share my insights as a tech entrepreneur and to make sense of the rapidly evolving world of IoT. However, understanding the craft of captivating an audience required more than just knowledge; it required heart.

Perhaps it’s not just about informing but connecting,” I realized one evening as I watched the digital stats slowly tick upward.

Storytelling, an art as ancient as time, became my focus. It wasn’t just about delivering facts but weaving them into the human experience.

Photo by saeed karimi on Unsplash

Let me share a secret with you: even in technology, where logic reigns supreme, the human element — the story — is what truly engages.

Why do simple videos of daily activities capture immense attention?

Because they narrate a journey, a transformation from chaos to order, from nothing to something. “Could the mundane details of tech innovation be woven into narratives that resonate on a personal level?” I wondered, my mind racing with possibilities.

I was never a natural storyteller.

My inclination has always been towards data, towards the tangible and quantifiable.

But the digital landscape taught me that the personal touch, the slight vulnerability in sharing successes and stumbles, draws people in.

Photo by DJ Johnson on Unsplash

Mazlan, it’s okay to show the struggles behind the success,” I had to repeatedly remind myself, the internal dialogue pushing me to be more open and genuine.

Here are some strategies that helped me carve out my space in the crowded world of online writing:

  1. Know Your Audience and Yourself: Before you type that first word, think deeply about who you are writing for and what unique perspective you bring. You can’t be everything to everyone, and that’s okay.
  2. Share Relatable Experiences: Even if you think your life or work might not be exhilarating, there’s power in the relatable simplicity of everyday experiences.
  3. Engage from the Get-Go: Your opening lines are crucial. Start with something that hooks your reader — humor, a question, or an intriguing statement.
  4. Create Characters: Even in non-fiction, the people in your stories are your characters. Let your readers see the world through their eyes.
  5. Build Tension with Conflicts: Introduce challenges or conflicts in your narratives. These don’t have to be dramatic; even small hurdles can engage your audience as they await resolutions.
  6. Immerse Your Readers: Use descriptive language to make your readers feel present in the story. Let them hear, see, and feel the environment you’re describing.
  7. Emotion Over Information: While facts are important, the emotional journey keeps readers coming back. Share your triumphs and failures to create a deeper connection.
  8. Be Consistently Present: Growth takes time. Post regularly and maintain a presence that your readers can rely on.
  9. Listen and Respond: Writing online is not a monologue but a dialogue. Engage with your audience, listen to their feedback, and tell them they are heard.
  10. Learn from Every Setback: Not every piece will be a hit. Learn from what doesn’t work and refine your approach.
Photo by Alexander Grey on Unsplash

In writing, just as in technology, adaptation and learning are keys to success.

Every story and article written is a step towards understanding what resonates.

As I celebrate small victories and prepare for the many challenges ahead, I am reminded why I started.

It’s about building something bigger than myself — a bridge between technology and daily life crafted not just with data but with the very essence of our shared human experiences.

So, here’s to the stories yet to be told and to find our voices in the crowdest room.

Remember, you don’t need to be the loudest in the room, just the one who touches the heart.

How to Embrace Courage

INFLUENCER’S STORIES

Fear is a reaction. Courage is a decision.

Photo by Cristi Ursea on Unsplash

Embrace courage by avoiding these common fears:

  1. Worrying about being judged by others.
  2. Fearing the opinions of those around you.
  3. Caring excessively about others’ feelings towards you.

In truth, most people are too preoccupied with their own lives to focus on yours.

This phenomenon is known as The Spotlight Effect.

You can’t control the thoughts or actions of others, and it’s a misconception to believe everyone is scrutinizing your every move.

So, let go of these worries.

They aren’t watching as closely as you think.

Freeing yourself from these concerns opens up room for personal growth.

Act in ways that reflect your true values and purpose.

Consider successful individuals; their achievements often stem from their disregard for public opinion.

They thrive because they don’t let the fear of judgment hold them back.

So, let courage lead your way and step forward boldly.

How Do You Find A Home For Your Words

WRITER’S JOURNEY

I have found a true home at Medium — a platform where I found my voice.

Photo by Scott Webb on Unsplash

As the CEO of a Startup, my days are often filled with the structured chaos of managing projects and innovations in the Internet of Things (IoT). I am immersed in the world of telecommunications, where technical jargon and concrete results reign supreme. Hidden beneath my technological facade lies a budding passion for writing – my escape and creative outlet.

Discovering My Voice on a New Stage

Photo by Matthias Wagner on Unsplash

My journey into the world of writing began timidly.

English is not my first language, and this fact always loomed large in my mind, presenting itself as a formidable barrier.

Each sentence pushed me beyond my comfort zone as I strove to translate technical precision into nuanced prose.

In my early days on Medium, my articles felt clumsy and shallow.

They were technical reports rather than stories, lacking the depth and flair I admired in the works of seasoned writers.

My words seemed like faint echoes in an empty chamber — quickly written, quickly forgotten.

My initial lack of engagement on my posts made me question, “Will anyone even notice?

Despite these challenges, a resilient spark within me refused to be extinguished.

I persisted despite doubts and language barriers.

A Community That Nurtures

Photo by Vonecia Carswell on Unsplash

It was the community on Medium that began to change everything for me.

This platform is a melting pot of ideas and expressions where novice and experienced writers gather to share and grow.

As I interacted more within this community, I realized that writing, much like technology, thrives on constant learning and exchanging ideas.

The encouragement and feedback from fellow writers were instrumental.

They went beyond critiquing my writing and engaged with my ideas, urging me to refine my arguments.

Collaborative writing contrasted with my solitary IoT work.

As I grew more comfortable on Medium, my approach to writing evolved.

I learned the importance of crafting captivating headlines, engaging introductions, and powerful conclusions — elements that are crucial in holding a reader’s attention in the fast-paced digital world.

I began to view each article as a small project, where thorough research, drafting, and revisions were necessary steps towards a polished final piece.

This meticulousness, something I honed through years in technology development, found a new application in my writing.

With each published article, I could feel my confidence building.

My followers on Medium grew, and the engagement on my posts — comments, claps, and shares — started to increase.

This feedback loop was exhilarating; it was tangible evidence that my words were resonating with others.

This newfound confidence was transformative.

I moved from being a timid, uncertain writer to one who could assertively claim his space within the community.

Medium became more than just a platform for sharing thoughts; it was a crucible where my identity as a writer was forged.
