Why I Changed the Title of My eBook: From “IoT Adventure” to “IoT Frontier” and Finally to “IoT: A Beginner’s Guide”?
A Reflection on the Power of SEO and Keywords in Book Titles
When I first launched my eBook on the intriguing world of the Internet of Things (IoT), I titled it “IoT Adventure.”
It seemed fitting at the time, a title that conveyed the excitement and exploration in the burgeoning field of IoT.
However, not long after, I made a decision to rename it to “IoT Frontier.” The shift was subtle yet significant, representing a more pioneering spirit. But then, a crucial realization dawned on me: the power of SEO and the right keywords in a book title.
In the digital age, where eBooks compete in a vast ocean of online content, the right title can be the difference between being discovered or remaining invisible.
This understanding led me to reevaluate my choice. “IoT Adventure” was catchy, and “IoT Frontier” had a ring of innovation, but did they encapsulate the essence of the book in a way that would resonate with potential readers searching online?
It was then that I decided to change the title again, this time to “IoT: A Beginner’s Guide.”
This title wasn’t just a label; it was a strategic choice.
The term “Beginner’s Guide” is widely searched by novices in any field, and incorporating it into the title immediately made the book more discoverable to my target audience.
It was a lesson in SEO – Search Engine Optimization – and the importance of keywords.
Choosing “IoT: A Beginner’s Guide” wasn’t just about tapping into popular search keywords.
It was a deliberate move to align the book’s title with what it truly offers – a comprehensive, accessible introduction to IoT for beginners.
This title clearly defines the book’s target audience and content, making it more likely to reach those seeking a starting point in their IoT journey.
In retrospect, the evolution of my book’s title reflects a deeper understanding of the digital marketplace.
While “IoT Adventure” and “IoT Frontier” were titles I was emotionally attached to, “IoT: A Beginner’s Guide” was a decision driven by pragmatism and a clear vision of my audience’s needs.
This journey in renaming my eBook taught me a vital lesson about digital content strategy.
It’s not just about what you write; it’s also about how you present it to the world.
The right title acts as a beacon, guiding the right readers to your work. It’s a blend of art and science, creativity and analytics.
To other authors and content creators, my advice is this: consider not only what your title says about your content but also how it will perform in the vast, competitive world of online search.
Your title is more than a name; it’s your first, and perhaps most crucial, marketing tool.
“IoT Frontier: Insights and Innovations in Malaysia and Beyond” serves as a seminal exploration of the interplay between technology and daily life, placing special emphasis on the Internet of Things (IoT) — a cornerstone of contemporary innovation reshaping global industries, urban landscapes, and day-to-day living.
Entering the year 2024, the book captures the essence of an ongoing digital renaissance, primarily propelled by IoT advancements. It offers an in-depth look at these developments, particularly highlighting Malaysia’s role in the narrative, which acts as a crucial case study for IoT’s influence in emerging economies.
In the first section, “IoT Foundations and Future Visions,” the book establishes a baseline understanding of IoT’s present status and its expansive future potential. It delves into the skills necessary for capitalizing on IoT and scrutinizes its integral role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Furthermore, it addresses the burgeoning ethical considerations in AI, pivotal as we progress towards increasingly intelligent solutions.
The second section provides a comprehensive analysis of Malaysia’s IoT sector, enriched with case studies and broader trend insights. The third section focuses on the intricacies of IoT platforms, with a particular lens on Favoriot, a leading name in the IoT industry. This part is crafted to aid enthusiasts, developers, and enterprises in making informed choices about IoT platform selection and use.
Sections IV and V take the reader through IoT’s transformative effects in specific fields such as industry, agriculture, and city planning, highlighting the revolution brought about by IoT in these sectors through groundbreaking solutions and smart technologies.
The book then expands its scope in Sections VI to VIII, exploring IoT’s applications in consumer and health markets, confronting the challenges in IoT deployment, and emphasizing the importance of IoT education and training. These chapters underline the versatility of IoT applications and the hurdles encountered in their implementation.
In Sections IX and X, the book delves into the synergy between IoT and AI and offers strategic business insights within the IoT sphere, providing a foresight into a future shaped by these interwoven technologies.
The penultimate section presents exclusive interviews with industry leaders, offering rare insights, while the final section takes a global perspective, examining worldwide IoT initiatives and their implications.
“IoT Frontier: Insights and Innovations in Malaysia and Beyond” is not merely a book; it is an extensive expedition through the IoT landscape. It aims to provide a holistic understanding of IoT’s potential, challenges, and future direction, catering to students, professionals, entrepreneurs, and IoT aficionados alike.
Today, I began my journey of writing my next eBook. After completing my last two eBooks, I realized the need for a more comprehensive guide on IoT. I want to provide readers with an enhanced version of my previous book, “Your IoT Journey,” with even more valuable content.
However, as I pondered over the title, I started to have second thoughts about the original one. I believe a captivating title is crucial for attracting readers and conveying the objectives of the book effectively. So, I decided to brainstorm some alternative titles that would encompass the essence of the book while sparking curiosity. Here are a few options I came up with:
Start Your IoT Business
Your IoT Guide
IoT Journey Guide
Transform into IoT
I’m open to any suggestions or feedback on these titles. Feel free to share your thoughts and help me choose the perfect title for my upcoming eBook. Stay tuned for the next update!
For the past many years, I have received similar questions again and again. Finally, I decided to write simple notes (hand-drawn and with the help of some multimedia tool) regarding IoT.
This can be used for lecture notes or as a simple way to understand IoT. Initially, I made this a paid version, but finally, I decided to make it free for all.
Note: Don’t forget to download the second eBook entitled “Your IoT Journey” which is also available for free.
And I am in the process of writing the third eBook called “IoT Adventure”. Soon to be published if I have enough energy or encouragement to complete. Thanks, guys, for the support!
IoT Adventure Book will delve deeper into the business of IoT. It will also share the experience of being an IoT entrepreneur. Some of the topics have been written in the IoT World Blog. Check out the contents below:
But I have this terrible habit of not finishing the book I read or didn’t even start reading them. And the worst part, sometimes I buy the same book twice because I don’t remember whether I have purchased it before or not.
When books are converted into digital, it changes how we consume knowledge. It also changes the way the reading habit.
This is what happened to me. I used to buy many print books (real books) and am proud to have a “library” to place the texts on proper shelves. Books on my shelves.
Books on my shelves
But I have this terrible habit of not finishing the book I read or didn’t even start reading them. And the worst part, sometimes I buy the same book twice because I don’t remember whether I have purchased it before or not.
And then, I began to start to download E-Books, and I began to read them finally. And the best part, I managed to read them till the last page!
E-Books LibraryIoT E-Book
Initially, I was convinced that Real Books are far better than E-Books because it doesn’t feel the same holding a book compared to something just digital.
[bctt tweet=”Why E-Books are better than Real Books” ]
BBut due to the Covid-19 lockdown, I started to read more E-Books and have changed my habit of reading. Below are some of the reasons:
Freedom – I can read the E-Book anywhere. I need to carry multiple of them with print books if I want to read more than one book. Of course, real books are heavy to carry. During travel, you don’t want to carry heavy luggage unnecessarily. What if you don’t like to read that book and that is the only book you have?
Easy to Highlight – Since I bought an iPad with a Stylus called Pencil, it simplifies me to jot down or highlight specific points or facts in the E-Book. And it does not destroy or dirty the E-Book because you can still erase the highlights quickly.
Only Digital – Some books are only published in digital form. Or you can convert a web article into PDF and read it like an E-Book. You don’t have to waste printing the papers.
Cheap or Free – E-Books are far more affordable than real books. And you can find free or “free” E-Books on the web.
Furthermore, I will be writing my E-Book called IoT Adventure and hopefully complete it by 2022.
When you are a thought leader, you can influence others in your industry. If you can influence other people, then this means that you can get their attention and even persuade them to adopt your ideas.
Who is a thought leader? A thought leader has significant influence and credibility in their field of expertise. They are often well known and admired by the people they influence. They may be the subject of books and articles, but more importantly, they impact other people’s lives. Think of people like Gary Vaynerchuk, Simon Sinek, or Tony Robbins. They are all thought leaders.
How to become a thought leader?
It’s simple. All you have to do is spend your time and effort reading the best thinkers in your field. As you read, you’ll notice that most of them have the same basic things in common. They are all well-educated, they’ve thought deeply about their subject matter, and they’re usually knowledgeable.
In addition, you’ll find that they’ve created an intellectual community around their ideas. They share their thoughts, which helps them understand themselves, their ideas, and their impact on others. Finally, they’re constantly pushing the boundaries of their thinking.
Why is it essential to be a thought leader?
In business, being a thought leader can be a potent tool. If you want to succeed in your business, you need to become one. You need to think out of the box and develop new ideas that others may not have considered. It is essential to become a thought leader because it will give you a competitive edge over others.
When you are a thought leader, you can influence others in your industry. If you can influence other people, then this means that you can get their attention and even persuade them to adopt your ideas. For this reason, being a thought leader can be a potent tool. But how do you become a thought leader? There are many ways to go about doing this, but there are also certain traits that you need to possess.
What makes a good thought leader?
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about what makes a good thought leader. And I came up with some thoughts that are worth sharing in my humble opinion.
Here’s the list:
Know your audience and be yourself. This is so obvious. But I don’t know how many people take it seriously. The more you know your audience, the better you tailor your message to their needs.
And if you are not who you are, you might as well not exist. This is one of the reasons why I like to say that you should write your own book and be your own publisher.
If you want to get a book published, you need to have something valuable to share. So, be yourself. That is the only way to get it right. Know your audience and be yourself. Be the best at what you do. Have a clear vision for what you want to accomplish.
But don’t ever stop learning. And if you can’t find your niche, create one. One of my favorite quotes is, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” This means that you must first be the change you wish to see in yourself. So, be the change you want to see in yourself.

How can I be a thought leader in my niche area?
As a writer, there are many ways you can develop your thought leadership. Here’s a simple guide:
Find the most influential people in your niche. These people are often leaders in their industry. They write books, articles, and they’re active on social media. Find the most influential marketers in your niche if you’re a marketer.
Follow them on social media. Most of these people have a blog or a Twitter account to share great content. They’ll probably follow you back.
Read what they publish. The more time you spend reading their content, the more you’ll be able to incorporate it into your own.
Write something unique. Don’t just copy and paste what they write.
Write something that makes your audience think, “I need to read this.”
Get the attention of these influencers. You can do this by writing a guest post on their blog or sharing their social media content.
Once they start following you, ask them to review your book or article. The more people you get to review your work, the better.
Finally, ask them for some feedback. They’ll appreciate the opportunity to help a writer improve their craft.
How can I achieve being a thought leader?
Here are some tips to get started:
Be the person others want to follow. This might seem like a cop-out, but you have to think about this from the other person’s perspective. You want to be the person they look up to and admire.
It’s tough to be someone else’s role model.
Focus on the positive There are so many things in your life that are great, but you just need to focus on those. When I first started looking at my life this way, I was amazed by how better I felt.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Focus on what you can control.
Have a plan of action and stick to it. If you set yourself up to fail, you’ll fail.
Yes – there’s a truth in this. That’s what they said a couple of years ago. However, there are many type of blogging such as personal journal, lifestyle, travel, health, technology and many others.
The trend for personal blogging have decline. People might no longer have interest to follow an individual daily activities, their families, trips etc. This type of content can easily followed via their social media channels such as Facebook or Instagram.
Entertainment vs Educational Blogs
However, blogs which covered specific topics that solve the reader’s problems would be the ones that have longer lifetime. The topics are more educational as compared to entertainment.
The contents for educational type of blogs can remained evergreen as people still searched the Internet for solutions.
So yes, people still read blogs. Multiple times a day, even! It just looks a little different because the content of blog posts has shifted from being writer-focused to being reader-focused. Blogs that focused on value to readers will have a higher reading rate.
This is something which I need to decide when I created Mazlan Abbas Blog – should it be personal blogging or a blog which is more educational such as the one I created at IoT World Blog.
Today, is my third day of blogging, and I will always monitor the traffic to see how the contents impact the traffic to the blog.

Why should you read and follow this Blog? If you want to read IoT contents, you may visit IoT World Blog, but here you will get constant updates about my journey in developing projects such as my Startup, FAVORIOT, Podcasts,, YouTube, Online marketplace and E-Books.
Sharing Platform
Along the way, I will share the ups and downs or probably some tips that we should avoid in building such projects. I hoped this will also become a platform to listen yo your ideas and thoughts too. Please leave you comments on the posts.
I have decided to make two of my IoT eBooks available for FREE to anyone interested to download.
The first eBook is entitled “Your IoT Journey“. It is a compilation of my best and selected written articles which was published from my IoT World Blog. It’s not written in a very technical manner because the idea is to share the issues, challenges and the tips for anyone who’s interested to take the IoT journey. After several years, the topic about IR 4.0 become a hot one. But it also bring along confusion regarding the different Era of Industrial Revolutions.
The second eBook or rather eNotes entitled simply as “IoT Notes” was originally written to illustrate the complexity of IoT and IR 4.0 in a simpler way. I used GoodNotes application and my iPad Air to draw and add colours to the descriptions. Hopefully, this will become a companion notes to anyone who is learning IoT and IR 4.0.
Hope you enjoy the two eBooks and kindly share with others. Hopefully we can share the knowledge and create the next Generation-IoT.
