About Favoriot — Part 20: How the Law of Attraction Brought The Startup to Life

FAVORIOT’S JOURNEY

Law of Attraction

Sitting in my quiet office one evening, I glanced at the stack of notebooks on my desk.

Each was a piece of my journey that led to the creation of FAVORIOT. I leaned back in my chair and thought about how it all began.

How did this dream, once a fleeting idea, become a company now empowering the IoT world?

I realised it wasn’t just the hard work or expertise but the belief. It was the Law of Attraction.

Planting the Seed of Belief

Years ago, I questioned my purpose before FAVORIOT was even an idea.

I have worked in corporate environments, government agencies, and universities. Each role taught me valuable lessons, but something was missing — a sense of fulfilment, the feeling of building something from scratch.

While reading about entrepreneurs who transformed their dreams into reality one evening, a question struck me.

What if I could build something that truly impacts the world?” I asked myself aloud.

The thought lingered in my mind. I started visualising it.

I pictured a company that would simplify IoT for businesses, a platform that would bring value to the community, and a name that resonated with our mission.

This was the moment FAVORIOT was born — not in reality, but in my mind.

Turning Visualisation into Reality

The Law of Attraction isn’t magic; it requires action.

I knew that merely dreaming about FAVORIOT wouldn’t bring it to life.

But I also knew that every action begins with a belief.

I began writing down ideas, sketching business models, listing potential collaborators, and jotting down challenges I might face.

Can I do this?” I often asked myself, doubting my abilities.

But each time doubt crept in, I countered it with positivity. “Yes, you can. You have the knowledge, the experience, and most importantly, the passion.

I repeated these words to myself every day, like a mantra.

The more I believed in FAVORIOT, the more the universe seemed to conspire to make it happen.

Attracting the Right People and Opportunities

As I started laying the groundwork for FAVORIOT, I noticed something remarkable.

Opportunities began presenting themselves, almost as if they were drawn to my vision. I met people who believed in my idea.

Some became mentors, others collaborators.

Why do these connections feel so effortless?” I asked myself during one of our early meetings.

The answer was clear: my energy was aligning with my goals.

By focusing on what I wanted to achieve, I attracted individuals and circumstances that supported my mission.

It wasn’t a coincidence; it was clarity.

When your vision is sharp, and your belief is unwavering, the right resources find their way to you.

Overcoming Challenges with Positivity

Building FAVORIOT wasn’t without its challenges.

There were days when nothing seemed to go right — delays in development, scepticism from potential partners, and financial hurdles.

On one particularly tough day, I remember sitting at my desk, staring at a rejection email.

Maybe this isn’t meant to be,” I muttered, feeling the weight of the journey.

But deep down, I knew I couldn’t give up.

I closed my eyes and revisited my vision.

I imagined FAVORIOT thriving, helping businesses, and making an impact. That mental image reignited my determination.

This is just a small setback,” I told myself. “The universe is testing your resolve.

True enough, solutions appeared.

A new client came on board, or a delayed project found momentum.

Each challenge reinforced my belief in the Law of Attraction.

It wasn’t about avoiding problems but maintaining a positive outlook to find solutions.

Celebrating Small Wins

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is to celebrate every milestone, no matter how small.

The first time FAVORIOT onboarded a customer, I remember smiling to myself.

This is just the beginning,” I said, excited and grateful.

Each achievement was proof that the vision I had nurtured was taking shape.

Gratitude played a considerable role in this journey.

Every morning, I took a moment to thank God—not just for the successes but also for the challenges.

They shaped me, strengthened my resolve, and brought FAVORIOT closer to its purpose.

Manifesting the Future

Today, as I look at FAVORIOT, I see more than just a company.

I see a dream realised.

I know the power of belief, visualisation, and action.

The Law of Attraction isn’t just about thinking positively; it’s about aligning your thoughts, actions, and energy toward your goals.

It’s about turning abstract ideas into tangible outcomes through focus and persistence.

Where will FAVORIOT go from here?” I often ask myself.

The answer lies in the same principles that brought us this far.

I continue to visualise our growth, the impact we’ll create, and the lives we’ll touch.

The journey is ongoing, and the Law of Attraction remains my guide.

As I close my notebook for the day, I feel grateful.

FAVORIOT is more than a business; it’s a testament to the power of belief.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: when you align your thoughts, actions, and energy, the universe listens. And when the universe hears, anything is possible.

The Struggle Between TikTok and Medium

INFLUENCER’S STRUGGLE

The choice between TikTok or Medium — Which one?

This question kept nagging: why am I splitting my time between TikTok and Medium?

Image created using ChatGPT

The platforms couldn’t be more different, yet both significantly shaped my voice online. This duality, balancing TikTok’s fast-paced allure with Medium’s more reflective, thoughtful environment, has been an exciting challenge.

It’s a constant juggle, but each brings out a different side of my creativity, and I’m starting to embrace both worlds in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

The Allure of TikTok: Fast-Paced and Instant Feedback

It all started when I ventured into TikTok as @iotman2030, exploring short, snappy videos about the Internet of Things (IoT). I didn’t expect much at first — after all, I’m not strictly part of the younger generation that dominates the platform.

But to my surprise, TikTok has been an exhilarating ride, rapidly growing to 6,729 followers. My videos get hundreds, sometimes thousands, of views in hours. It’s instant feedback, and something is thrilling about seeing the numbers climb in real time.

TikTok is a platform that thrives on speed and spectacle. Often, I can craft a video in under a minute. It’s about capturing attention quickly, keeping it visually engaging, and riding the wave of trends.

Every like and every view comes almost instantly, which can be addictive, to be honest. But there’s a catch — monetizing that success isn’t as straightforward as you’d expect. While TikTok offers a burst of engagement, it doesn’t always translate into financial rewards as easily as Medium does.

The Depth of Medium: Slower but More Meaningful

Despite TikTok’s fast success, something keeps pulling me back to Medium. On Medium, things are quieter. My audience is smaller — around 2,531 followers — and my articles rarely pull in big numbers.

At most, I’m seeing about ten reads a day. But here’s the thing: I’m okay with that. I’ve started to appreciate the slower, more thoughtful pace that Medium demands.

Writing on Medium feels like a slow burn. Sometimes, I’ll spend hours, even days, drafting and refining an article. It’s more than just putting words on a page — it’s about crafting something that resonates on a deeper level.

Medium readers are different.

They’re not there for quick entertainment; they want depth, insight, and value. These readers appreciate the time and effort that goes into creating a meaningful article, and in turn, they engage with me in a much more thoughtful way.

Different Audiences, Different Expectations

It’s fascinating to see how the audiences on TikTok and Medium are polar opposites. TikTok is fast, fun, and full of energy.

Most of my viewers are younger and drawn to the edutainment-style content I produce. They come for quick, digestible clips that deliver information playfully and engagingly. It’s a rush to see their reactions within minutes of posting.

Medium, however, attracts a more mature crowd. These readers are looking for depth — they enjoy sinking their teeth into well-researched articles.

My audience on Medium appreciates thoughtful pieces that go beyond surface-level insights, and they expect a higher level of engagement from me as a writer.

My discussions in the comments section often dive deeper into the topics, leading to rich, meaningful exchanges. Knowing I’m connecting with people on a more intellectual level gives me a different kind of satisfaction.

Why Not Both? Embracing the Balance

After reflecting on these differences, I asked myself: Why should I choose between TikTok and Medium? Why not embrace both?

It’s like catering to two different creative appetites—TikTok satisfies my need for instant engagement and creativity, while Medium allows me to connect on a deeper level. Each platform offers something unique, and together, they help me grow as a content creator.

By embracing both platforms, I’ve found a balance that works for me.

On TikTok, I get to experiment with fast-paced, visually engaging content, which fuels my creative energy. Meanwhile, Medium allows me to slow down, reflect, and dive deep into the topics I’m passionate about.

It’s not about choosing one over the other; it’s about leveraging the strengths to reach different audiences and explore different sides of my creativity.

Beyond TikTok and Medium

But my content creation journey doesn’t stop there.

I’ve also dipped my toes into other formats like podcasting and YouTube. Podcasting has been an exciting adventure, allowing me to explore long-form discussions that wouldn’t fit into a TikTok or Medium post.

I can dive into complex topics in a more relaxed, conversational format. In a way, YouTube combines the visual appeal of TikTok with the substance of Medium. It’s another experiment where I’m still figuring out what works best.

But that’s the beauty of content creation; it’s constantly evolving, and I get to try new things, see what sticks, and adjust along the way.

Lessons for Budding Medium Writers

For anyone thinking of jumping into Medium, I have a few takeaways from my experience so far:

  • Know Your Audience: Medium readers aren’t looking for fluff. They crave well-thought-out, insightful content. Take your time to craft pieces that offer value.
  • Engage with Your Readers: Medium thrives on interaction, and the conversations you start in the comments section can be as meaningful as the article.
  • Be Patient: Building a following on Medium takes time. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, but if you stick with it, the personal and financial rewards are worth it.
  • Create Meaningful Content: Unlike TikTok’s quick-hit content, Medium is about depth. Focus on creating articles that stand out and resonate with your audience.
  • Diversify Your Platforms: Don’t limit yourself to one platform. Like I juggle TikTok, Medium, podcasting, and YouTube, explore different formats and reach out to varied audiences.

The Art of Juggling Platforms

Ultimately, I’ve seen my presence across TikTok, Medium, podcasting, and YouTube as a diversified portfolio.

Each channel brings something different to the table, allowing me to connect with various kinds of audiences uniquely.

As I continue this journey, I’m learning that content creation is not about chasing numbers but finding the right balance between speed, depth, and authenticity.

This journey is far from over, but I’m enjoying the ride, juggling different platforms, and discovering more about myself as a creator.

Different strokes for different folks, as they say, and I’m learning to embrace that fully.

Your Vision and Purpose Were Larger Than Any Obstacle

INFLUENCER’S JOURNEY

Several years ago, I made a pivotal decision to transform my mindset and actions.

I stopped:

  • complaining
  • hoping
  • wishing

Instead, I began to:

  • innovate
  • construct
  • realize

I committed to being consistent, persistent, and patient.

No matter how tough the journey got, how many heartaches I endured, or how daunting the challenges appeared.

Even in moments when it seemed there was no end in sight, when the storms outnumbered the sunny days, and the setbacks outnumbered the victories, I persevered.

My vision and purpose were larger than any obstacle.

Remember, no one understands your vision better than you.

No one else can construct it as effectively as you can.

Only you can turn it into reality.

Stay resilient on your entrepreneurial path.

The journey is not meant to be easy; if it were, everyone would succeed at it.

You are on the right path, and in time, you will reach your destination.

Creating Favorsense has been an exhilarating yet challenging journey. We faced several hurdles in bringing our vision for more intelligent urban living to life.

Here are the three main challenges we encountered while building Favorsense:

  1. Technological Integration into Existing Systems: One of the primary obstacles we faced was integrating Favorsense with city councils’ current technological infrastructure. The platform had to be robust enough to handle the influx of data from the mobile application and ensure seamless communication with the existing systems for managing urban issues.
  2. User Adoption and Engagement: It’s one thing to develop an innovative product; it’s another to ensure it is adopted and utilized effectively by its intended users. We had to devise strategies that would encourage city residents to use Favorsense and ensure they found it to be a more effective solution than traditional complaint mechanisms.
  3. Navigating Public Sector Sales Cycles: Engaging with public sector entities presented a unique set of challenges, primarily due to the extended decision-making processes and procurement cycles. It required us to refine our go-to-market strategy continually and develop patience and understanding to align our product launch with the pace of government operations.

Overcoming these challenges has been a testament to Favoriot’s resilience and innovation.

We’ve learned to iterate our product based on real-world feedback, fine-tune our approach to engaging with government bodies, and ensure we deliver a user-friendly experience that makes civic participation accessible to all.

This path has shaped Favorsense into the platform it is today and has prepared us to pave the way forward for connected, responsive, and inclusive smart cities.

Why Posting Time Can Either Make or Break Your Article

From Rigorous Tracking to Intuitive Posting

Finding My Perfect Posting Time

“Letting go of meticulous tracking was not a step back, but a leap forward into a more intuitive and fulfilling way of connecting with my audience.”

It’s been a wild ride with ups and downs, but I learned a lot along the way. Photo from Unsplash.

I want to share my little adventure into the world of self-discipline and organization, particularly focusing on my writing and publishing journey on Medium.

It’s been a wild ride with ups and downs, but I learned a lot along the way.

It all started when I noticed that my writing and publishing were all over the place.

Some days I felt like a content-producing machine, while on others, I couldn’t even muster up the energy to type a single word.

My posts were random, my thoughts scattered, and my audience engagement was as unpredictable as the weather.

I knew I needed a change, a structure to bring some order to my chaos.

So, with a burst of motivation, I decided to discipline myself and structure my writing and publishing process.

The plan was simple: track everything in an Excel spreadsheet.

I wanted to record data that captured the date and time of my postings, whether the article was behind a paywall or not, if I needed to notify my email subscribers, and whether the article was ready to publish.

It sounded like a foolproof plan, right?

For about 1.5 weeks, I was on it.

I meticulously entered data into my spreadsheet after each post. It felt good at first, like I was in control of my content.

I could see patterns emerging and thought I was onto something big.

I had visions of optimizing my posting schedule to the minute, maximizing my audience engagement, and perhaps even predicting the future!

But let me tell you, it was exhausting.

The initial thrill of organization quickly gave way to the tedium of data entry.

Every post became a chore, another row to fill, another set of cells to format. The joy of writing and sharing my thoughts was overshadowed by the mechanical process of tracking everything.

And so, after almost 1.5 weeks, I gave up. I just couldn’t keep up with the self-imposed bureaucracy.

Now, I’ve adopted a simpler approach to scheduling my posts.

Instead of getting bogged down in the minutiae, I focus on a broader strategy.

I discovered that posting just before midnight (Malaysian time) yields the best engagement for my audience.

This revelation was quite a surprise and highlighted the importance of timing in content publishing.

The difference between my old random posting and my current semi-structured schedule is night and day.

My audience knows when to expect new content, and I can prepare my posts in advance, ensuring they’re of higher quality and better thought out.

It’s a more relaxed approach, but it’s far more sustainable and enjoyable for me.

Through this experience, I learned a valuable lesson: balance is key.

While it’s important to have some structure and discipline in your work, especially when you’re aiming to build an audience and engage with them regularly, it’s equally important not to get lost in the details.

The essence of writing — sharing ideas, expressing thoughts, connecting with others — should always come first.

In the end, I’ve found a rhythm that works for me.

It’s not as strict as my initial plan, but it’s effective.

My posts are more consistent, my audience engagement has improved, and, most importantly, I enjoy the process.

Writing is a passion, and while discipline is necessary to harness it, it should never extinguish the joy it brings.

So, to anyone struggling to find their footing in the world of online content creation, remember this: find your balance.

Don’t be afraid to try different methods to find what works best for you, but always keep your love for writing at the forefront.

It’s a journey, with its share of trials and errors, but it’s worth every step.

Why Malaysia Takes Almost 10 Years To Gain Traction in IoT

When New Technology Emerged

There must be a leading factor missing — this is what I found out.

Here I am, lounging in my office chair, a cup of my favorite tea in hand, staring out into the vastness of my thoughts.

It’s one of those moments where the world seems to slow down, and you’re left with nothing but your reflections.

Today, my mind wanders to a question that’s been bugging me for years: Why is the adoption of technology, specifically the Internet of Things (IoT), taking so much longer than expected?

I remember when Kevin Ashton coined the term IoT back in 1999.

It was a concept that promised to revolutionize the way we interact with the world around us.

Fast forward to 2014, Malaysia launched its National IoT Strategic Framework, and the buzz was electric. Yet, the excitement quickly fizzled out, and I couldn’t wrap my head around why.

Then came 2017, the year we launched our IoT platform at Favoriot.

We were pumped, ready to change the game, only to be met with a lukewarm response.

It was disheartening.

I spent countless nights looking at the stats, trying to figure out where we went wrong. It wasn’t until I hit the streets, talking to people, that it clicked.

The issue wasn’t with the technology itself but with the understanding of it.

Most people didn’t even grasp what IoT was, let alone why it was necessary. And if they were clueless about the ‘what’ and ‘why,’ the ‘how’ was even more of a mystery.

That’s when it hit me — the lukewarm response to our platform wasn’t about its functionality but about the lack of knowledge and understanding.

Fast forward a few more years, and the landscape started to change.

We realized that if we wanted to jumpstart IoT adoption, we needed to go back to the basics.

We needed to build awareness and nurture talent through IoT training.

It was a slow process, but with the push towards Industry 4.0 and AI, IoT began to gain prominence.

The need to collect data was undeniable, and how could you do that without IoT?

Image from Pixabay

Now, as I sit here in 2024, sipping my tea and looking over the latest stats, I can’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but the growing IoT awareness and adoption is a testament to our efforts.

It’s a reminder that sometimes, to move forward, you have to take a step back and educate.

As I muse over this thought, I realize that the key to technology adoption isn’t just about creating cutting-edge solutions but also about bridging the gap in understanding.

And as the world slowly but surely embraces IoT, I can’t help but think, “We’re finally getting there.
