One early morning, I’m at my desktop, sipping on my probably-too-cold lemon tea, and I decide to check my emails.
There’s always a bunch of them, but one catches my eye.
It’s a direct reply to one of those emails I’ve been sending out ever since I got into the groove of writing for Medium.
You know, back in January 2024, I had this lightbulb moment: “Hey, why not ping my loyal followers with an email notification every time I drop a new piece?” Thought it was genius at the time.

But here’s the kicker: I didn’t just stop at once in a while.
Oh no, I got into a rhythm, sometimes churning out content more than once a day. And, well, turns out not everyone’s a fan of their inbox turning into a dedicated “Me” channel.
This one email, straight up, it was from a reader who’d had enough.
The gist? “Your emails are swamping my inbox!”
Ouch, right?
But hey, I get it. We’re all fighting that never-ending battle against email overload.
So, I shot back a polite reply, something along the lines of, “Totally hear you! There’s this magical unsubscribe button for just such an occasion.”

Fast forward a couple of days, and there I am, stuck in traffic, the kind where you move a foot every ten minutes.
And my mind starts wandering. Was I overdoing it with the email blasts?
Is bombarding my readers with daily updates more annoying than useful?
That’s when the internal debate kicked off.
Part of me is like, “Keep it up! Your real fans want all the updates!”
But then, the more considerate side pipes up, “Maybe tone it down? Not everyone needs their day narrated by you.”
So, here I am, tossing it out to you guys – my fellow writers and avid readers.
What’s the play here? Should I hit pause on the daily email notifications?
Maybe keep it to just the really juicy articles?
Or how about a weekly roundup – a sort of “In case you missed it” vibe?
I’m all ears (or eyes, since we’re talking emails and comments).
What do you think?
Is too much of a good thing, or is more always better?
This book popped onto my radar at just the right time. You know, one of those moments when you’re scrolling endlessly, looking for that spark of inspiration to hit?
Well, hit it did, and let me tell you, it was more like a lightning bolt. I’ve been toying with the idea of dipping my toes into the thought leadership waters, but honestly, I didn’t have a clue where to start.
First off, Denise doesn’t just talk the talk; she’s walked the walk. With a resume that’ll make your head spin, she’s the real deal, and she’s generous with her insights.
The book lays out a seven-step process that’s like a treasure map to becoming a thought leader.
And the best part?
You can start this journey from wherever you are in your career. No need to be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or a Silicon Valley wiz kid.
If you’ve got expertise and a network, Denise shows you how to harness them to make waves in your field.
What really got me were the real-world examples. Reading about folks like Robin Chase of Zipcar and Chip Conley felt like having mentors whispering in my ear, telling me, “Hey, you can do this too!” It’s one thing to read a how-to guide; it’s another to see that guide brought to life through stories of people who’ve actually been there, done that.
But let’s get down to brass tacks — this book isn’t just a feel-good read.
It’s a workbook, a planner, and a mentor all rolled into one.
Denise doesn’t let you off easy. She’s got this knack for making you want to roll up your sleeves and get to work. And work you will.
With tips, strategies, and what feels like a personal success coach by your side, you start to see how even 15 minutes a day can set you on a path to making a real impact.
It’s for anyone ready to take their career beyond the conventional success metrics and venture into the realm of lasting influence and legacy.
Denise Brosseau has crafted not just a guide but a companion for this journey, one that I’ll be keeping within arm’s reach as I take my first steps toward thought leadership.
If you’re sitting there, wondering if this book is for you, let me save you some time: it is.
Whether you’re looking to spark sustainable change, create a movement, or simply have a deeper impact in your field, this book holds the keys to the kingdom.
It’s a gem, and I’m just grateful to have stumbled upon it. Time to stop dreaming and start doing, folks.
I was sitting in front of my computer screen, scrolling through yet another article post, hammering in the point that using AI or ChatGPT for our writing is a big no-no.
The frustration was real.
My mind was swirling with thoughts, “Really? Not even a little help?”
It felt like being handed a paintbrush but told not to use any colors.
Here’s the deal — I get it, okay?
The idea of just tossing a simple prompt into the AI abyss and letting it spit out a full-blown article or book without a second thought doesn’t sit right with me either.
That’s not creativity; that’s just being lazy.
But here’s where my frustration bubbles up like a volcano on the verge of eruption: English isn’t my first language. Getting those perfect, grammatically flawless sentences down?
It’s like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded.
Hours, I tell you, hours spent wrestling with a 500 or 1000-word article, trying to make it sound just right.
And it’s not just about grammar.
Conveying what I want to say, filling my articles with the right emotions, the nuances, the color — it’s daunting.
So, here’s the forbidden thought: what if I draft my thoughts, outline my content, and then, just then, let AI or ChatGPT fine-tune it?
Is that really so wrong? A sin, even?
“But what if the article turns out better? What if it actually gets read, appreciated, or — dare I say — earns something on Medium? Wouldn’t that be a good thing?”
The thing is, some of my articles that had a touch of AI assistance received good responses and even earned a bit. Meanwhile, the ones I slaved over, pouring my heart and soul into every word without any AI help, barely made a ripple.
It’s enough to make you wonder, isn’t it?
“Why is it that the ones I work hardest on, the ones I pour my everything into, just… flop?” I’d ask myself, staring at the screen, waiting for an answer that never comes.
And yet, there’s this lingering fear — what if a Medium publication outright rejects my work because it got a helping hand from AI?
Even if I’m the one steering the ship, drafting the content, and ensuring it reflects my voice, my ideas?
So here’s the confession, the moment of truth at the end of this tale of frustration and inner turmoil: this article, the very one you’re reading now, had a bit of help from ChatGPT.
Yeah, I said it.
With its assistance, I managed to shape my thoughts, polish my words, and hopefully, make this piece engaging and coherent.
Can you forgive me?
In a world where the line between human and machine creativity is becoming ever so blurred, maybe it’s not about who writes the article but the story it tells, the emotions it evokes, and the impact it has.
If using AI means breaking down language barriers and bringing our stories to life in ways we never could on our own, perhaps it’s not such a sin after all.
There are two main problems that I faced managing these social media channels:
There are too many channels — both personal and business.
There is too much content to create for each channel.
All of these have caused me:
A lot of anxiety
Wasting time checking and analyzing the stats
Headache to find new contents
Busy editing contents
Busy viewing all those channels
The time on social media sucks the time and energy from me. I have become very exhausted physically and mentally — I have become social media fatigued.
What should I do?
I decided to slow down and trim down the unnecessary social media channels and strategized the way I uploaded my content:
I decided to maintain only one personal and one business social media channel regardless of whether it’s FB, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
A lot of my content will be repurposed. The same video content will published in different channels.
Articles from my Blogs (mainly Medium) will be posted on X, Threads, and Facebook.
I have placed a simple process flow of generating content daily — especially in the early morning.
I have to make this an enjoyable task. Otherwise, I could have given up a long time ago.
I am still tired of managing all this content, but hopefully, one day, I can delegate my business social media channels to someone else.
I am less tired nowadays. I am grateful for that.
So, how do you manage your social media channels to ensure you stay energized?
Traditional media channels can be very effective but too expensive for early Startups — Here’s how I find a better way to brand my Startup.
“True brand visibility comes not from the size of your budget but the depth of your connections.” — Anonymous.
Starting my journey with Favoriot was a rollercoaster of emotions filled with exhilarating highs and daunting lows.
As a Startup, you don’t have the luxury of a branding budget to make yourself known to the world.
The thrill of bringing a new idea to life was often shadowed by the stark realities of business challenges, especially regarding the crucial aspect of brand visibility.
I was at a crossroads in the crowded IoT industry, where traditional media channels like TV and radio felt like distant dreams due to their prohibitive costs and selectiveness.
But still, we have the dream to brand ourselves — make ourselves heard and position the company as the leader in IoT.
This is how I navigated the maze of alternative media channels to build and promote the Favoriot brand, a journey marked by innovation, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of connection.
“Branding on a budget teaches you the power of creativity, authenticity, and a clear vision.”
Getting the Right Visibility: A Daunting Start
“In the age of the Internet, visibility is less about being seen and more about creating genuine connections.”
I quickly realized that getting Favoriot featured in mainstream media was a steep climb.
The choices were stark — either become an overnight sensation to be picked up organically or shell out sums of money we didn’t have.
This dilemma led me to an epiphany: in the internet age, traditional media wasn’t the only game in town.
Social media and other online platforms offer a beacon of hope, promising visibility, and a means to connect with our audience genuinely.
Replacing Radio, TV, Billboards, Newspapers and Magazines
“Not every channel will fit your story, but finding the right ones can turn whispers into roars.”
Determined to turn our constraints into opportunities, we dove headfirst into the alternative media world.
I remember the excitement and nervousness of launching our podcast series.
Our bid was to replace radio, a medium that felt personable and direct.
The podcast became a canvas for our stories, industry insights, and heartfelt conversations with experts.
Each episode was a step towards building a community, not just a customer base.
YouTube presented itself as our television alternative.
Launching our channel felt like opening a window for the world to peek into Favoriot.
From product demos to customer testimonials, each video was a labor of love, showcasing what we did and who we were.
Then there were digital posters, our answer to billboards, designed to capture the essence of Favoriot in a single, striking image.
Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest became our galleries, each post a testament to our creativity and vision.
Our blog replaced newspapers, becoming a treasure trove of valuable content ranging from how-to guides to industry analysis.
Writing each blog post, we were laying down the building blocks of a knowledge hub that would inform, engage, and inspire.
“Building a brand is not just about selling a product; it’s about embedding your story in the hearts and minds of your audience.”
A Strategy of Precision
“Adaptability in branding is not a sign of failure but a step towards finding your true audience.”
As we experimented with various platforms, it became clear that not all channels were created equal.
Our strategy evolved from casting a wide net to focusing on those that truly resonated with our audience.
TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn emerged as our champions, each offering unique avenues for engagement and connection.
This focus wasn’t just about numbers; it was about finding spaces where our stories could thrive and where we could genuinely interact with our community.
A Quest for Trust and Recognition
“Content is not just king; it’s the entire kingdom. Engage, inform, and inspire.”
I learned early on that our mission was more significant than mere sales figures.
Favoriot was about building a brand for trust, innovation, and community.
Every update, milestone celebration, and story shared was a step towards embedding our brand in the hearts and minds of our audience.
The aim was to become a brand that was not just recognized but revered and recommended.
Key Lessons Along the Way
This journey has been an invaluable teacher.
One of the first lessons was adaptability; the digital landscape is ever-changing, and flexibility is crucial.
We learned that not every channel fit us, and there was wisdom in pivoting when necessary.
The power of content became undeniably clear.
Quality content was not just king; it was the entire kingdom. It was what engaged people, made them think, and, more importantly, felt connected to Favoriot.
Consistency emerged as another cornerstone of our strategy. In the bustling world of social media, maintaining a steady presence was vital to staying relevant and top of mind.
“A consistent presence in your chosen channels is like a beacon, guiding your audience back to you amidst the noise.”
Epilogue
Reflecting on this journey, I see it as more than a marketing endeavor; it was a voyage of discovery and growth.
Using alternative media channels to build the Favoriot brand taught me that visibility is not just about being seen; it’s about connecting, sharing, and building relationships.
It reinforced the belief that creativity, authenticity, and a clear vision can make a monumental impact even without a mammoth budget.
This narrative is not just a recount of past events; it’s a living testament to the power of alternative media and the boundless possibilities it holds for startups.
As I look towards the future, I am excited for the next chapter in Favoriot’s story, ready to explore new horizons, armed with the lessons learned and the community we’ve built. This, indeed, is just the beginning.
“In the landscape of entrepreneurship, personal blogging is not just a pen stroke, but a bridge connecting the depths of personal growth to the heights of professional achievement.”
[Note: Click this if you are not a Medium Partner Program member. It will give full access to this article.]
In the chaotic world of entrepreneurship, we, as founders, often face a wide range of experiences, from the thrill of breakthroughs to the stress of setbacks.
Amid this storm, it’s too easy for me to become absorbed in the day-to-day demands of decision-making and troubleshooting.
However, I’ve discovered a potent, often overlooked tool that has brought me clarity, perspective, and a profound sense of achievement: personal blogging.
Through my journey, I’ve seen how keeping a personal blog can provide insight for entrepreneurs like me, helping us steer our ventures with more wisdom and purpose.
The Hidden Gems of Personal Blogging
“Through the lens of a personal blog, every entrepreneur becomes a storyteller, transforming daily trials into a tapestry of triumphs and teachings.”
At a glance, blogging is just an online journal or a way to express oneself.
But for entrepreneurs, myself included, it goes far beyond that, evolving into a valued routine that enriches my personal life and business endeavors.
My blog, where I candidly shared the ups and downs of my entrepreneurial journey, began to connect with a broader audience in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
This burst of engagement highlighted the power of authenticity and vulnerability in forging connections with others.
The Healing Power of Writing
“Writing is the soul’s therapy, and personal blogging is its sanctuary, offering clarity amidst chaos and transforming thoughts into tangible paths forward.”
For an entrepreneur, writing is inherently healing.
Blogging about my daily experiences, the hurdles I’ve faced, and the milestones I’ve achieved acts as a form of reflection.
It allows me to step back from the relentless pace of business and introspect, giving voice to my thoughts and feelings. This isn’t just about recording what happens; it’s about making sense of the journey.
Documenting the highs and lows, the errors, and the successes offers a structured approach to dissecting and comprehending these moments.
It’s a way for me to externalize the inner monologue that can often become convoluted and overwhelming if left unchecked.
Gaining Clarity Through Reflection
“Reflection through blogging is not merely looking back; it’s charting a course forward, turning lessons into stepping stones for tomorrow’s successes.”
Reflection is a vital part of learning and evolving.
Personal blogging aids in this by enabling me to look back on past decisions, results, and thought processes.
Writing down the stories behind each event helps me and entrepreneurs like me to identify patterns, acknowledge recurring challenges, and recognize progress that might otherwise be overlooked.
This reflective practice deepens my understanding of my entrepreneurial journey, spotlighting the lessons learned and pinpointing areas for growth.
The clarity this provides is priceless, offering a navigational tool for future choices and plans.
The Strength of Community Engagement
“A personal blog is more than a diary; it’s a dialogue with the world, inviting connection, empathy, and shared journeys toward common horizons.”
My experience has highlighted the unexpected benefits of engaging with a community through blogging.
The interaction from readers — through views, comments, and shares — becomes a source of encouragement and affirmation.
It is gratifying to realize that my personal story resonates with others and could offer them insight, motivation, or comfort.
This connection with a broader audience enriches the blogging experience, transforming it from an individual activity into a collective voyage.
Cultivating Resilience and Wisdom
“Every blog post is a beacon of resilience, illuminating the path for others while casting light on the wisdom earned through the entrepreneur’s voyage.”
Each blog post covering the obstacles I’ve encountered and overcome marks a significant point in my entrepreneurial journey.
These recorded experiences build up a wealth of knowledge, equipping me with the insights and resilience needed for upcoming challenges.
Sharing these stories benefits not just me as the writer but also supports readers who may find themselves in similar predicaments.
It fosters a cycle of mutual support and growth, reinforcing that every story has its place in entrepreneurship.
An Invitation to Personal Blogging
“The act of blogging is an act of bravery, where sharing one’s vulnerabilities becomes the strength that binds a community of like-minded souls.”
Personal blogging stands out as a powerful instrument for entrepreneurs, serving multiple purposes: a medium for introspection, a beacon of clarity, a link to connect with others, and a treasure trove of learned lessons.
My journey vividly illustrates how incorporating personal blogging into our entrepreneurial practices can provide far more than a historical account.
It opens doors to personal development, community engagement, and clearer thinking.
Adopting personal blogging can be a game-changer for those of us navigating the complexities of our startups and entrepreneurial ventures.
It’s an offer to pause, reflect, and connect — essential steps for maintaining our drive, resilience, and focused vision.
I often remind myself, “Keep dreaming and hustling, and never forget to share your story.”
In the vast, unpredictable sea of entrepreneurship, our blogs can serve as lighthouses, guiding not just ourselves but others, reminding us that amid the chaos, every story matters, and yours might be the beacon someone else is searching for.
Five (5) Lessons Learned via Personal Blogging
1 — Blogging Transcends Simple Journaling to Enrich Entrepreneurship:
Unlike a diary, personal blogging offers a more profound, multifaceted platform that intertwines personal growth with professional development.
The practice of sharing the entrepreneurial journey authentically and vulnerably not only fosters personal reflection but also strengthens business understanding by connecting with a broader audience.
2 — Writing as a Therapeutic Tool for Clarity and Reflection:
Writing about daily experiences, challenges, and achievements is a powerful form of self-reflection and therapy.
It provides a structured way to process the entrepreneurial journey, helping to externalize thoughts and feelings that, if left internalized, can become overwhelming.
This reflective writing helps in distilling complex experiences into actionable insights.
3 — Reflection Aids in Learning and Growth:
Personal blogging enables entrepreneurs to revisit past decisions and outcomes, offering a chance to learn from mistakes and celebrate successes.
This continuous cycle of reflection is crucial for identifying patterns and recurring challenges, deepening understanding, and fostering personal and professional growth.
It turns experiences into a compass for future navigation.
4 — Community Engagement Enhances Motivation and Support:
Sharing one’s journey through blogging creates a feedback loop of engagement that can offer encouragement, validation, and a sense of belonging.
Knowing that your story resonates with others and could help them navigate their challenges is immensely rewarding.
This enriches the individual blogging experience and contributes to building a supportive community around shared struggles and triumphs.
5 — Documenting the Journey Builds Resilience and Wisdom:
Each blog post that recounts the hurdles overcome and the lessons learned serves as a milestone in the entrepreneurial path.
These documented experiences become a reservoir of wisdom, equipping the entrepreneur with the resilience to face future challenges.
Moreover, sharing these insights fosters a supportive ecosystem where the writer and the readers can learn from each other, promoting a culture of mutual growth and resilience.

Over the past five months, I’ve penned various articles, eventually organizing them into four self-published series.
The first series, “Aspiring Writer’s Journey,” delves into my experiences navigating the world of Medium. Not being a professional writer, I’ve documented my progress, obstacles, practical advice, and reports on earnings. I hope that this documentation not only tracks my development but also aids others facing similar hurdles.
The second series, “Startup Survival Journey,” chronicles my adventures as a tech founder and entrepreneur, highlighting successes and failures alongside tips that could assist fellow budding entrepreneurs.
The third, “Influencer’s Journey,” explores my efforts to establish myself as a thought leader in IoT and a social media influencer, aiming to offer insights and strategies for growth enhancement.
The final series, “IoT World,” is a technical exploration focused on the IoT sector, reflecting the services provided by my startup, Favoriot. This series also examines industry trends and challenges, and uniquely, it is offered free of charge, diverging from the paywalled approach of my other publications.
Below are the top 5 topics (Sept. 2023 — Jan. 2024)

However, through a meticulous five-month journey of exploration across four distinct publications, one narrative thread has emerged victorious in capturing audience attention and monetization success: the “Aspiring Writer’s Journey.”
The Unique Appeal of the “Aspiring Writer’s Journey”
The “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” has eclipsed its counterparts in readership and earnings, a fascinating outcome that warrants a closer examination.
This publication, a candid chronicle of the trials and triumphs encountered in becoming a recognized Medium writer, has struck a chord with a broad audience.
But why?
Relatability and Authenticity: At its core, the journey of an aspiring writer is universally relatable. Many readers harbor their dreams of writing, searching for inspiration and practical advice to navigate the often tumultuous path to publication and recognition. This publication offers an authentic, first-hand account of these experiences, making it immensely appealing.
Utility and Inspiration: Articles within “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” serve a dual purpose. They are instructive, offering tips and inspirational monetization reports, charting the author’s growth and improvement. This blend of utility and motivation is a potent mix that attracts readers seeking guidance and encouragement.
Community and Engagement: Writing, by nature, is a solitary activity, but the journey towards becoming a writer need not be. This publication has fostered community among readers and aspiring writers, encouraging interaction, sharing experiences, and mutual support. This community aspect enhances engagement and loyalty, driving higher readership and earnings.
Comparing Niche Publications
While the other publications — “Startup Survival Journey,” “Influencer’s Journey,” and “IoT World” — each offer valuable insights into their respective fields, they cater to more specific audiences.
The broad appeal of writing and the universal allure of storytelling gives “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” a wider potential audience base.
Furthermore, the free-to-access nature of “IoT World,” though noble in intent, may contribute to its lower monetization relative to the paywalled heart of “Aspiring Writer’s Journey.”
The Power of Personal Narratives
Another critical factor in the success of “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” is the power of personal narrative.
Personal stories of overcoming challenges, achieving milestones, and continuous learning resonate deeply with readers.
This personal connection is less pronounced in the more technical or niche-focused publications, which, while informative, may not engage readers on the same emotional level.
Insights for Content Creators
The success of “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” offers several vital takeaways for content creators:
Authenticity Sells: Genuine stories and transparent sharing of successes and failures draw readers.
Relatability is Key: Content readers can see themselves in has a broader appeal.
Blend Utility with Inspiration: Providing practical advice alongside motivational content can satisfy readers’ diverse needs.
Foster Community: Engaging readers in a shared journey can enhance loyalty and increase readership.
Conclusion
The standout success of “Aspiring Writer’s Journey” underscores the importance of authenticity, relatability, and community in content creation.
It highlights that, even in a world saturated with information, personal stories of struggle and triumph have the power to captivate and connect.
For aspiring content creators and writers, this revelation serves as both inspiration and guide: to find one’s voice, share it authentically, and, in doing so, resonate with readers around the globe.

Eight (8) Things Which I Found During My Time on Medium
Are You Wasting Your Time on Medium — Image Created using Canva by Author
I often find myself drawn to Medium, investing what many might consider ‘wasted’ hours.
But here’s the thing: my time on Medium is far from wasted.
It’s a strategic move that serves multiple purposes, each contributing significantly to my personal and professional growth.
Let me elaborate on why Medium is an indispensable tool in my arsenal.
1 — Monetizing My Passion for Writing
One of the primary reasons I spend time on Medium is the potential for monetization.
By crafting and sharing articles, I’m not just indulging in a hobby; I’m creating a stream of income.
Medium’s partner program offers a platform where quality content gets rewarded, turning my passion for writing into a financially viable endeavor.
2 — Building a Community of Followers
Medium is not just a writing platform; it’s a community.
By consistently sharing my thoughts and expertise, I’ve been able to connect with like-minded individuals.
These followers aren’t just readers; they have become my potential collaborators, customers, and friends. Building this community has opened doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise.
3 — Expanding My Email List
As any digital marketer knows, an email list is gold.
Medium has been instrumental in helping me grow my list.
Through engaging content, I encourage readers to sign up for more personalized communication.
This list is a direct line to my most engaged audience and is invaluable for future ventures or announcements.
4 — Driving Traffic to My eBook Store
My presence on Medium is a funnel to my eBook stores on Gumroad and Payhip.
I create a new revenue stream by linking to my products in my articles.
Readers who find value in my writing on Medium are often interested in exploring my more in-depth written works, leading to increased sales and exposure.
5 — Establishing Myself as a Thought Leader in IoT
Medium allows me to share my insights and expertise in the domain of the Internet of Things (IoT).
I’m positioning myself as a thought leader by consistently publishing high-quality content in this niche.
This recognition is crucial for professional growth and opens up opportunities for speaking engagements, consultancy roles, and more.
6 — Boosting Traffic to My Startup, Favoriot
My startup, Favoriot, greatly benefits from my Medium presence.
By discussing relevant topics and sharing stories related to my startup journey, I drive traffic to Favoriot’s website.
This increase in visitors boosts our brand awareness and leads to potential customer conversions.
7 — Building Trust and Finding Business Opportunities
By sharing my journey and insights related to Favoriot, I’m not just promoting a brand but building a relationship with my audience.
Getting people to know, like, and trust Favoriot is a step towards finding leads and business opportunities.
Trust is the foundation of any business relationship, and Medium allows me to lay this foundation effectively.
8 — Enhanced SEO for My Articles
Lastly, Medium’s robust platform offers excellent SEO benefits.
My published articles rank well on search engines, providing greater visibility and reach.
This enhanced online presence is vital for building a personal brand and for the digital success of Favoriot.
In conclusion, my time on Medium is a strategic investment.
Each article I write, and every interaction I have on the platform contributes to a larger goal.
Whether monetization, community building, or brand promotion, Medium is a versatile tool aiding my professional journey.
It’s more than just a writing platform; it catalyzes growth and opportunity.
Since March 2016, my followers have been only about 200+ until I changed my writing strategy in September 2023.
Although I have been posting on Medium for seven years, I have never done something drastic to change how I grow my followers.
I kept posting and republishing my old content from my other blogs.
I never thought of monetizing my posts because it was purely for fun.
But then, I became aware that most of the high-quality content on Medium requires a paid subscription.
That’s when, in Sept. 2023, I decided to join the Medium Partner Program (MPP) to have full access to all the tips written by members.
But hey! I noticed I could monetize my posts by making our content behind the paywall.
That’s when I get more serious — publishing content and engaging with others.
Screenshot of the followers
Below are five main things I did that helped to grow my followers by 417%:
User-Generated Content: Featuring stories or content from readers can significantly enhance engagement and community building. For example, if you’re writing about sustainable living, you could invite readers to share their experiences or tips. You can then feature these stories in your articles, giving credit to the contributors. This diversifies your content and creates a sense of belonging among your readers.
Networking: Connecting with other authors on Medium can be beneficial for cross-promotion and learning new writing strategies. For instance, if you specialize in travel writing, connect with other travel writers. You can collaborate on pieces, share each other’s work, or provide support and feedback. This helps in reaching a wider audience and gaining insights from peers.
Feedback Request: Asking readers for their thoughts and suggestions makes them feel valued and increases engagement. At the end of an article about healthy eating habits, you could ask readers to comment with their favorite healthy recipes or tips. This can provide you with future content ideas and help build a community around your work.
Be Authentic: Genuine content creates a deeper connection with your audience. Instead of just presenting facts, share personal stories or experiences related to the topic. For example, if you’re writing about overcoming challenges, share your story and how you overcame them. Authenticity makes your writing more relatable and engaging.
Write What You Love: Passionate writing naturally attracts more readers because it’s more compelling and engaging. If you have a deep interest in astronomy, write articles exploring different aspects of the stars and the universe. Your enthusiasm will shine through your writing, making it more enjoyable and exciting for your readers.
